MINDEN - After turning the ball over three times on its first three possessions of the season, the Douglas boys' basketball team pulled together to cruise to a 75-41 win over Reed in season-opener for both teams on Tuesday night.

Douglas rattled off a 10-0 run to open the game and never looked back as the Raiders never got any closer than eight points. The Tigers never led by less than 16 points in the second half. Douglas put the game away with a 16-2 run to start the third quarter.

"The kids played hard, but there was some of that season-opening stuff," Douglas coach Corey Thacker said. "Once we started taking care of the ball, things fell into place.

"We had those three turnovers to start, then we had only seven turnovers in the first half. That was key early on. The kids were active on defense and kept them from getting things going."

Sophomore Hunter Myers led Douglas with 16 points as 12 of the Tigers' 13 players put points on the board.

Matt Thomas had nine points, Garrett Getty added eight, Austin Neddenriep had seven points, Jorey Scott had six points, Chris Downs and Conner Hughes each had five, Nick Maestretti, Theo Denson, Kameron VanWinkle and Matt Wylie each had four, Jake Tessmann hit one 3-pointer and Trevor Shaffer had a number of big rebounds in his first varsity game.

Douglas (1-0 overall, 1-0 Sierra League) travels to North Valleys next Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
