Classic guitar concerts celebrate holidays

A five-year holiday tradition returns to the region with Sierra Nevada Classical Guitar Holiday concerts.

Hosted by the Sierra Nevada Guitar Society the Carson City concert will be at 7 p.m. today at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St.

The concert repeats at

7 p.m. Friday at the Carson Valley Art Bar, 1572 Highway 395, Minden.

Featured guitarists include Antoniy Kakamakov, from Bulgaria, one of the finest young musicians in the classical guitar world; Chris Hague who is enrolled in the bachelor of music program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; Larry Aynesmith is founder of the Sierra Nevada Classical Guitar Festival; and Andrew Ohren, an acclaimed classical guitarist from Plumas County.

This year features the Bach Chaconne performed by Antoniy Kakamakov, Vivaldi Concerto for Two Guitars, Fandango by Luigi Boccherini, music by Adam Falckenhagen from the Baroque era, a Christmas Medley, and more.

All concerts are free, however, a $15 to $20 donation is strongly suggested to help fund future programs.
