Zedekiah was one of the last kings of Judah. He was a contemporary of the prophet Jeremiah but was steadfast in his resistance to Jeremiah and his God. An ancient historian records that Zedekiah "stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the LORD God of Israel" (2 Chronicles 36:13). The year was 586 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian forces raided and destroyed the land and took survivors into captivity.
I'm sad to say it, but I know some people like Zedekiah. There are many who have stiffened their necks and hardened their hearts against turning to God. Oh, God still sends warnings by His messengers because He has compassion on His people, but they, like King Zedekiah, still reject Him.
These days between Thanksgiving and Christmas are a special time of year. There is a message somewhere between the turkeys, the lines of shoppers, and the beards in red suits. Listen, and listen well to Isaac Watts' words of 1719. "Joy to the world, the Lord is come!"
This is the time to loosen necks and soften hearts. Your local churches await.
