LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Bureau of Land Management says a proposed 236-mile transmission line connecting Las Vegas to northeastern Nevada could displace some wildlife, but overall will not have signficant environmental consequences.

The bureau published an environmental impact statement on its website Monday for a 30-day public review.

The bureau's report also concludes that construction and operation of the NV Energy line will create more jobs and higher wages.

The 500-kV transmission line would connect the public utility's southern and northern electrical transmission systems.

The new line is expected to provide better access to northern Nevada geothermal energy and southern Nevada solar energy after it opens in January 2013.
