Obituary: Robert Frank McGuire

Robert Frank McGuire, age 76, passed away Dec. 7, 2010, at Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. Bob was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Detroit, Mich., at Highland Park Memorial Hospital to Johanna Sophia Planje and Norton Foster McGuire. He graduated from Redford High School in Detroit and completed his law degree from La Salle Extension University.

Bob proudly served as a sergeant In the Marine Corps along with his older brother James. Upon returning from his service with the Marines, he attended Kalamazoo College in Michigan. While there, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Anne Denyes on April 6, 1957. For 53 years they never stopped loving each other. They moved to California in 1958 and had two sons, Michael and Patrick.

Bob served for 20 years with the Los Angeles Police Department. He retired in 1978 as a sergeant in the Organized Crime Division. Bob moved to Carson City in 1978 and worked for the Gaming Control Board and later took a position with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department in the polygraph section. Bob retired Aug. 15, 1999, and continued to call Carson City his home. He spent his whole life serving his country and protecting the communities in which he lived.

Bob loved the outdoors, and enjoyed camping, fine dining, spending time with his family, and bringing smiles to everyone around him with his wonderful dry sense of humor and his endless stories. Bob will always be remembered and loved as the strong and intelligent man, husband, father, and grandfather that he was. He lived a remarkable life and deeply loved those closest to him, from his beloved wife, family and friends, to his four-legged faithful companions. He will be sadly missed by all those who have known him personally and professionally.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, James and Richard McGuire. He is survived by his wife Barbara McGuire; sons Michael, and Patrick and Julie McGuire; grandchildren Christopher, Shane, and Shannon McGuire; and family members Lynn McGuire, Mark McGuire, James McGuire, Pamela McGuire, Susan Ford, Jim and Pamela Denyes, Nancy Denyes, Amy Neronski and Laura Denyes.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to remember Bob.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carson Tahoe Regional Hospital Healthcare Foundation in the name of Robert F. McGuire.
