Small-pox on the Comstock: There is now no longer any doubt that the small-pox is increasing in Virginia City. The Chronicle says that the disease is divided between the incompetents who pretend to practice medicine and do not know the difference between chicken pox and small-pox and those who care for small-pox victims and come into daily contact with people on the streets.

100 YEARS AGO

P. H. Farrell, one of the best known miners in Southern Nevada, was burned to death in his cabin at Round Mountain Sunday night. It is presumed that Farrell had retired for the night and left the light burning. The deceased leaves a wife and four small children.

70 YEARS AGO

The Lions today voted to proceed on a skating pond, provided the school district approves of the plan since the pond is on district property. Lion Guild is to propose a display in the basement of the State Museum of miniature replicas of the state mines as a memorial to Senator Pittman.

50 YEARS AGO

The Ormsby County Sheriff Howard Hoffman warned Christmas shoppers to not let carelessness ruin their holiday by leaving packages where they can be stolen, but instead put them in the trunk.

20 YEARS AGO

The bid has been challenged for the new state library. The second lowest bidder lost the contract because a five percent penalty was added to the bid because the company had not done business in Nevada for five years.

10 YEARS AGO

A 10-month investigation into methamphetamine trafficking resulted in the arrest of 17 including the suspected ringleader in Montana.
