Mr. Gilbert, who is compiling the history of Nevada for Thompson & West, returned from Pyramid Lake where he had been spending a week with the Indians for the purpose of gathering authentic accounts of the Indian war of 1860. Over three days he went over the battle ground with Indian chiefs. (continued Tuesday)

100 YEARS AGO

Senator Stewart tells the tale of Mark Twain as a young journalist boarding with his brother in Carson City. Twain was once a guest at a breakfast to his model citizen Christian brother. He was seated and ready for breakfast when a voice drawled from above: "Have you read your scripture this morning?" "Yes, was the reply." "Said Grace?" "Yes," responded the patient head of household. "All right then," came Twain's voice, "I'll be right down."

70 YEARS AGO

Materials may be available in Nevada for the making of mattresses by Nevada low income families on farms and in towns of fewer than 2,500 inhabitants. The mattresses will be made by the families in community work centers under the direction of local committees.

50 YEARS AGO

The Chamber of Commerce is hosting an annual Christmas movie Saturday at the theatre. The feature will be "Conquest of Cochise," and a cartoon. There will be free candy.

Former Iraqi hostage Tony Edwards is feeling good about being home and being called "Daddy."

Longtime Carson City Dr. Richard "Doc" Grundy, a pioneer physician in the area, passes after a lengthy battle with cancer.
