Nevada hospitals put out word on crib death

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Hospitals around Las Vegas say they are alarmed at the number of infants dying of suffocation in bed or a crib.

The hospitals are promoting a public service campaign to teach parents safe sleeping practices for their children.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that 95 infants died in Clark County over a four-year period ending in 2009 because bedding or stuffed animals or pillows or sofa cushions didn't allow them to breathe easily.

Dr. Andrew Eisen, chairman of the Clark County Child Death Review Team, told the newspaper those numbers are alarming and that crib death shows no sign of abating.
