RENO (AP) - Officials say six northern Nevada elementary school students and a bus driver did exactly the right thing when their vehicle became entangled in energized power lines in Reno.

They did nothing.

The kids from Lois Allen Elementary School in Sun Valley had practiced just this kind of scenario. They stayed on the bus until help arrived.

Once the power was shut off, the bus backed away from the lines and paramedics checked to make sure everyone was OK.

Reno Fire Battalion Chief Todd Keckley tells KRNV-TV that lives were probably saved because the students and driver knew not to step off the bus during the Monday afternoon mishap.

Officials say that if the bus was energized from the electric lines, they could have been electrocuted.
