Carson High's JV boys basketball team won two games at last weekend's tournament at Hug High School.
Carson opened with a 52-48 loss to Douglas and followed that up with a 76-74 triple-overtime win over Lowry and a 45-26 victory over Fallon.
Sage Smith, who averaged seven points and 10 rebounds in the three games was named to the all-tournament team.
In the loss to Douglas, Michael Bass led Carson with 10 points and Rafe King added nine. Bass led the way in the win over Lowry with 19 points, while Bruce McIntosh and Colin McCulloch added 14 and 11, respectively. King led the way against Fallon with 15 points.
Carson Middle 7th
graders win title
The Carson Middle School 7th grade boys basketball team won the Tah-Neva League Championship Saturday in Lake Tahoe, capping off a perfect season at 19-0.
Carson dominated in all three games, beating South Tahoe 44-14, Pau-Wa-Lu 61-31 and pounding Carson Valley 42-17 in the championship game.
Jerry's Kids leads

Jerry's Kids holds a two-point lead over Role Models in the Mosconi Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.
Jerry's has 50 points and Role Models 48. Big Dogs and Rack Fink are at 47.
Juan Pina of Twisted Stix leads the 6-7 tier with 34 points, while David Giovacchini of Jerry's Kids is second with 33. Mike Snoddy leads the 4-5 tier with 40 points, 10 ahead of Justin Leuty of Big Dogs. Janice Cameron of The Spoke leads the 2-3 tier with 38 points, one ahead of Josiah Toledo of the Young & Restless.

participate in nationals
Erika Sosa finished 72nd in her age group at last weekend's USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Hoover, Alabama.
Sosa, a Carson High junior and running for the Silver State Striders, covered the 5-kilometer distance in 21 minutes 55 seconds. She ran in the Intermediate group.
Alex Drozdoff, a Carson High freshman running for the Buffalo Babes was 90th in the Youth girls group. She ran a 16:06 for the 4k race.
Blanca Sosa, a fifth-grader at Seeliger Elementary, finished 179th in 13:21 in the Midget girls race. She is a member of the Silver State Striders.
Sierra bass club seeks new members
The Sierra Nevada Big Mouth Bass Club monthly meetings are at 6 p.m. the first Thursdays of the month at Round Table Pizza, 961 Topsy Lane #440, Carson City.
Meetings last about an hour. Discussions include tournaments schedule, conservation issues, habitat projects, youth programs and issues that impact bass fishing for local impoundments; and assisting new members with fishing fundamentals or questions.
The club consists of members from teens into their 70s who enjoy the competitive nature of fishing and the camaraderie of other anglers. Based in Carson City, the members do most their fishing in California.
The club is affiliated with Bass Angling Sportsman's Society (B.A.S.S.) and Federation Nation. Membership to these organizations is necessary for membership in The Sierra Nevada Big Mouth Bass Club.
Many members fished in pro and AAA events, but beginners are encouraged to join and learn from them. Six to nine tournaments are planned each year, including youth and new member events.
The club practices catch and release angling and pays strict attention to safety.

WNC hosting Jepsen for fundraiser on Jan. 15
Western Nevada College will host an evening of dinner and baseball lore on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Peppermill Hotel-Casino, Reno.
This year's annual fundraiser for WNC will feature Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher Kevin Jepsen. Jepsen, a Bishop Manogue High School graduate, is a right-handed reliever and a member of the bronze medal-winning team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The event includes a three-course dinner, hosted beer and wine, raffle, and both live and silent auctions. Tickets cost $75 or $700 for a table of 10 for tickets purchased prior to Jan. 1. On or after Jan. 1, tickets will be $100 each or $1,000 for a table of 10.
This year, participants also have the option to help support a Nevada high school baseball or softball program by attending the Wildcats athletics fundraiser. Fifty percent of their net ticket proceeds ($15) may be directed to the Nevada high school softball or baseball team of their choice.

Empire Ranch Golf Course is offering several different membership options for the coming season.
The Premium Ranch Pass costs $1,650 for an individual and $2,450 per couple. It includes a cart and unlimited green fees.
The Ranch Pass is $1,500 per year for an individual and $2,250 for a couple. It includes unlimited green fees each day with a $10 cart fee required before noon on Saturdays and Sundays.
An Afternoon Ranch pass is $900 for an individual and $1,350 per couple. It includes unlimited green fees with cart after 12 noon seven days a week.
A Walk the Ranch Pass costs $950 for an individual per year and $1,425 per couple. A Walk the Ranch Afternoon pass is $600 per year for an individual and $900 per couple. It includes green fees seven days a week.
A Junior Ranch Pass costs $200 per yer from May to October. A cart isn't includes. It's open to golfers 17 and under.
The Empire Ranch Card is $150. You would get four free rounds. For every 10 rounds you pay for, the 11th round is free. Pay only $25 per round in the summer and $20 in the winter. A cart is included.
