A Carson City man involved in a high-profile beating death in 1998 was again behind bars after being stopped in Reno allegedly drunk and in possession of methamphetamine.
Clint Malone, 27, was booked into the Washoe County Jail on Sunday morning on suspicion of speeding, driving on a suspended driver's license, driving under the influence, trafficking methamphetamine and two misdemeanor traffic-related warrants for failure to appear.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Trooper Chuck Allen, Sunday morning an NHP sergeant stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 395 in Reno, just south of the Plumb Lane interchange. The red 2009 Dodge Avenger driven by Malone had been clocked at 80 mph in a 65 mph zone, said Allen.
Allen said Malone displayed signs of intoxication and subsequently failed the field sobriety test. A records check showed his license was currently suspended and Malone also had two active traffic-related misdemeanor warrants out of Winne-mucca.
He was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Washoe County Jail. During intake at the jail, 7.2 grams of methamphetamine were allegedly located in Malone's pocket.
His bail Tuesday morning was $22,054.
Malone was 15 years old when he and nine friends were charged in the 1998 motel room beating death of Sammy Resendiz. Malone was sentenced to probation for a charge of battery with use of deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm. He ended up serving two years in prison after violating his probation twice.
