130 YEARS AGO

(Continued from Tuesday) The fight opened on a level flat near Pyramid Lake, with the whites riding up sending a volley into the Indians. The whites ran past the line then became aware of how many Indians they faced and circled back into the cottonwood timber which flanked the river. Here they tried to make a stand. Here young Winnemucca, the war chief, rushed in between the opposing factions and waved back his warriors, desiring to hold a council (continued on Thursday).

100 YEARS AGO

Louis Basso, a well known Silver City miner died at his home near the Divide yesterday. Basso had held mining ground in the section for years with only recently had it it shown its worth proven. Bassos funeral will be taken care of by members of the K. of P. Lodge in Virginia City.

70 YEARS AGO

Raymond Frazier, a Sparks youth, has confessed to the theft of George Roy's Chrysler Royal coupe. Roy's tan colored automobile was not easily recognizable when discovered in an old shed on a ranch a mile distant from Sparks. The hub caps had been replaced with stolen De Soto hub caps.

50 YEARS AGO

The state fish and game service reports the 1960 deer kill exceeded last year's totals by 1,861 head.

Nevada's welfare caseload continues to climb at a steady rate with 24,204 recipients.

A petition to call on the California department of corrections from dumping ex-felons in Nevada is being circulated after one Reno woman's run-in with a convicted rapist.
