The Chinese New Year: An Appeal reporter visited the Chinese temple yesterday and stayed for the entire service. As the pastor neared the podium, he was not mentioned with the mellow notes of a bell, but with innumerable bombs and fire crackers. With the pandemonium he created he stood with the sedate look of an undertaker (continued Thursday).

100 YEARS AGO

There is an entire new change at the Lake Theatre tonight. Among the new films, thought to be the best management can acquire are "Across the Divide," and a documentary called "Breakers."

70 YEARS AGO

George Kitzmeyer gets his leg pulled. Before the days of automobiles, many years ago before undertakers, Kitzmeyer was called to Carson Valley to bring back a body. Enclosed in a box, in the dark, Kitzmeyer proceeded back to Carson when an Indian, who had been riding in the back of the wagon unnoticed, grabbed Kitzmeyer's leg in a effort to get him to stop, because this is where his "campoodie" was. "I have been around dead bodies long enough to know this one was alive," recounted Kitzmeyer. When the Indian was told he had been sharing the wagon bed, only separated by a thin piece of wood, the Indian ran into the dark in terror.

50 YEARS AGO

Newspapers oldest printer, Roy Robinson Miguels, 87, son of Nevada Appeal founder Henry Rust Miguels, dies in a Carson rest home.

20 YEARS AGO

The historic V & T Roundhouse will be demolished soon and the owner will not honor Carson City's request to delay the sale of the property.

10 YEARS AGO

For the Nevada Attorney General's Office, a training session on the open meeting law was almost an open and shut case. The office called a meeting on the open meeting law and would not allow the press to attend, saying the press attendance would not be necessary.
