V&T Railroad owner Tom Gray received the second annual Community Service Award at the Dec. 7 meeting of the Storey County Commission.

Community Services Director Deny Dotson said, "Each year, a selection committee takes nominations for a community service award, i.e. business of the year. We look at a lot of factors, but the big one is what has this person done for Storey County. This one has donated to our schools and to our community and has developed a product that has significantly helped tourism here in Virginia City and Northern Nevada.

"This person threw an event called RailFest that led to 15 students being sworn in as U.S. citizens," Dotson said. "With that and many other factors, I would like to award this award to Tom Gray and the Virginia & Truckee Railroad."

After Commission Chairman Greg "Bum" Hess read the resolution into the record citing the family and railroad for its continued, exemplary service to the residents of Storey County, Tom Gray said, "I don't deserve this."
