GOP women's club honors Lori Bagwell

Lori Bagwell of Carson City was honored Tuesday night as Woman of the Year by the Carson City Republican Women's Club.

Bagwell, who owns Charley's Grilled Subs along with her husband Jim, said she was finally able to become active in politics after retiring from state service where she was chief financial officer for the Department of Corrections.

"I was never politically active in that position but I'm retired now," she said.

Carol Howell, who received the award last year, said Bagwell joined the GOP women's club a year ago, "and immediately got very involved, working on several events."

"She was just very involved and participated in a lot of ways. She was the type of member that you give her something to do and she completed the job and then some," said Howell. "It was impressive."

Howell said Bagwell received multiple nominations from other members of the club.

Club President Janice Baldwin said, "She's just given so much. The women recognized what she's done this year and voted her in."

Baldwin said the club is growing: "This year we have had tremendous contribution from the women in the club. We had probably about 40 women join the club this last year."

The group held its annual awards dinner and installation of officers at the Carson Nugget.

Sandy Markoe was named president and Jan Brase first vice president of the group. Angela LoGiurato was named vice president in charge of membership, Darlene Bardsley secretary and Suzie Weissman treasurer.
