Holiday memories: Remember those serving our country

At this time of the year, I always remember the four years I was in the U.S. Air Force. Each Christmas

I was away from home and my family. Three of those years were at bases in the U.S., but I couldn't get home due to lack of seniority.

One year was because I was in Vietnam, where it didn't feel like Christmas with temperatures in the mid-80s and humidity around 90 percent. We still managed to celebrate, though, by sharing packages that we all received from home. My mom sent me a shoebox of Tootsie Roll Pops. They were very popular with all the guys.

I guess what I really want to say, though, is for everyone to please remember all those guys and gals who are serving our country in the armed forces throughout the world during this holiday season. Most people only think of those in combat areas but don't forget those who are stationed at very remote places and oceans. They, too, are away from home and their families.
