Advocate helped get life back for homeless man

There are other places in Carson City besides FISH that help the homeless and the disabled and veterans and their families. They are the Do Drop Inn and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

The Do Drop Inn's director is Dee Dee Foremaster. It is also called the Independent Living Center. Dee Dee Foremaster helps homeless people and disabled people with their Social Security, Veteran's Administration, Medicaid and Medicare paperwork, and she also does HUD paperwork. She also helps them find housing and helps advise them on their rights.

I should know first-hand, because 12 years ago, I was homeless. I had lost my jobs in Reno and found myself homeless from August-December 1998. She helped me find housing, helped with finding a job and has helped me with my independent living skills.

I also ran into trouble with the law. With Dee Dee's help, I am no longer homeless, I have an apartment, I have been with my current employer for over 10 years. I am in Special Olympics and have won numerous awards. I go to church now and am no longer in trouble with the law. I also have friends now through church. And I am grateful to my church families at Hilltop Community Church.

I am also disabled - I had scoliosis when I was younger and Shriners' Children's Hospital did my surgery.

Toss the commission that approved bear hunt

I read the story about two injured cubs finding refuge at the Animal Ark, and it warmed my heart. There are some caring people in Nevada.

The panel that voted to establish Nevada's first bear hunt should be thrown out on their ears.
