Stephen Sam died Jan. 30, 2010, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Carson City at the age of 56.
He was born May 19, 1953, in Carson City to Joann V. Tyndall Sam and Roger Kenneth Sam. Stephen was the grandson of Patricia and Christopher E. Tyndall Jr. and Ida Kaye and Willie Sam.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents. He is survived by his father Roger, companion Alicia Youngman, his brother Kenneth R., his sister Shawn Marie, many extended family members, friends and his beloved pets Bart and Midget.
He attended school in Carson City, University of Nevada-Reno and Lassen Community College. While at Carson High he excelled and lettered in basketball and baseball. As an adult he continued to play in tournaments and city leagues in the area. Steve worked in the construction industry. An avid fan of all sports, his passion was car racing. The first track he became involved in was Tahoe Carson (T-Car) speedway. He traveled many miles on the West Coast to see races, meet drivers and make new friends.
A viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Ross, Burke & Knobel. The funeral will be 11 a.m., Friday at the Tribal Gymnasium in Nixon Nevada.
