Lyon County Animal Services expanded its hours at the Silver Springs shelter.
The new hours are:
Kennel: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, excluding holidays.
Office: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily excluding holidays.
Lyon County Animal Services will have at least one animal services officer on duty seven days a week except holidays from
8 a.m.-6 p.m.
In 2009, Lyon County Animal Services saw a 62 percent decrease in dogs euthanized and a 61 percent increase in dogs being rescued, according to Sheriff Alan Veil.
