BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) - A man who says he intends to run for the seat held by U.S. Sen. Harry Reid has been arrested in Lander County.

Jerry Dean "JD" Carter faces arraignment Friday before the Battle Mountain justice of the peace on charges of disturbing the peace, trespassing and resisting a public officer.

Sheriff's deputies say Carter was trying to campaign at the Senior Center and was arrested after he refused a request to leave.

The 69-year-old Carter listed a California residence.

His party affiliation was not immediately known. A spokeswoman for the secretary of state's office says his name can't appear on the ballot because he he has failed to comply with state election law.

Carter has been accused of disrupting at least three newspaper newsrooms in northern Nevada.
