ANTIOCH, Calif. - An Antioch man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he attacked his girlfriend with a hammer during a fight over a winning lottery ticket.
Contra Costa County prosecutors Thursday also charged 47-year-old Bradley Ruffin with battery, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery in the Jan. 26 attack on the 39-year-old woman, whose name has not been released.
Antioch police say Ruffin repeatedly hit the woman in the head with the claw side of a hammer when she refused to give him all $1,000 from the winning ticket. The woman apparently wanted to split the proceeds.
Sgt. Diane Aguinaga says Ruffin drove the woman to a hospital parking lot, where he pushed her out of the car and ran off.
The woman suffered a fractured skull and broken neck and spent a week at the hospital.
