$82.7 million wagered on Super Bowl

The Gaming Control Board reports $82.7 million was wagered on this year's Super Bowl.

The New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Miami on Sunday.

Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander said unaudited figures show Nevada's 182 sports books won $6,867,101 - a win percentage of 8.3 percent.

While the amount wagered was slightly better than the 2009 Super Bowl ($81.5 million), the total was significantly less than the previous four years, which all saw more than $90 million in bets.

The amount sports books won was also lower than three of those years, 2005 through 2007. The highest win reported was in 2005 when casinos raked in $15.4 million on $90.7 million in bets - a record 17 percent win percentage. The win was $8.8 million in 2006 and $12.9 million in 2007.

The 2008 game, however, is one bookies would like to forget. In the game between the New York Giants and New England Patriots, the books lost $2.5 million on $92 million in bets.
