Board approves increase in veterans home pay

The Board of Examiners on Tuesday approved an 8 percent increase in the co-pay for residents at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City.

Veterans Services Director Tim Tetz said the increase is needed to ensure quality of services is maintained. It was supported by the Veterans Commission.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto questioned what would happen if a veteran or his family couldn't pay the higher rate.

"Never in the nine years of the home have we had a veteran kicked out," Tetz said.

Tetz said if someone can't make the payments, they work with that person to make sure they are still in the home.

The increase raises the veteran's co-pay from $101 to $110 per day. Non-veteran pay rates for spouses and Gold Star parents would rise from $173 to $187.
