The Chinese New Year: The Sermon. The text was taken from Confucius, 7th, 12th. The reverend opened his discourse by alluding to the fact that honesty was becoming a thing of the past and the Americans were nothing more than thieves and imposters and that the Chinese were becoming impregnated with the odor of sin and iniquity. He went on to say that anyone making a winning in gambling donate at least 10 percent.

100 YEARS AGO

Death Valley Scotty, the best known unwashed mystery that has ever come out of Southern Nevada, has made his debut as an actor at a moving picture stage in Goldfield. Scotty tried to hand out the "bull" in larger quantities than many Goldfielders could handle and was not only booed off the stage, but with great glee. So much for the man from nowhere.

70 YEARS AGO

Worthy Advisor Brownlie Wylie presided over the meeting of the newly installed Rainbow Girls. Ruth Cowperthwaite was received as member by invitation. Plans for a pie sale were discussed.

50 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: Enricos is now open for lunch featuring specialty sandwiches - baked ham and hot pastrami. Also serving pizza with take out available.

20 YEARS AGO

A former radon consultant is concerned Carson water well radon limits may exceed healthful levels.
