(AP) - Gov. Jim Gibbons plans a formal signing ceremony Tuesday to issue a proclamation calling for the Nevada Legislature's special session Feb. 23 to try to address a budget deficit approaching $1 billion.
The first-term Republican up for re-election in the fall said in a statement Friday the proclamation will contain the "specific matters" state lawmakers may consider during the session. He has proposed roughly 10 percent budget cuts of state agency budgets, including public schools and higher education.
Gibbons said he intends to sign the proclamation in his office at the Capitol Building at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
