CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons will sign a proclamation today officially calling lawmakers into special session to deal with the state's $880 million budget shortfall.
Gibbons will sign the document Tuesday at a 10:30 a.m. news conference in Carson City.
The proclamation also will outline at least some of the governor's proposals for cutting the budget that will be considered by legislators when the special session begins Feb. 23.
The first-term Republican governor who is seeking re-election previously asked state agencies to prepare for 10 percent budget cuts.
But some legislators say the budget hole would require cuts of up to 20 percent if applied across the board.
Gibbons also has pledged not to support tax increases.
