130 YEARS AGO

Superintendent Yerington will appear before the union of the Silver City, Gold Hill and Virginia City miners today at Gold Hill to (decide) whether or not he can put coolie labor at work on his new railroad extension to Bodie. The miner's union will say in substance: "When you put your (Chinese man) on the road you will learn our wishes in the matter." Those who claim to know assert that no Chinese man will ever be permitted to work on the road.

100 YEARS AGO

Man comes into this life without consent and leaves without his will. In infancy he is an angel, in boyhood, a devil and at manhood, a devil and on up. If he is a poor man, he is a poor manager. If he is a rich man, he is dishonest. When he comes into the world, everyone wants to kiss him. When he leaves the world, everyone wants to kick him. If he dies young, there was a great future before him. If he dies old, he is just doing so to save funeral expenses. Life is a funny road. But we all want to travel it just the same.

70 YEARS AGO

Lion Homer Mooney gave a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln at the club meeting this week. "Each year, the stature of Abraham Lincoln grows greater in the eyes of Americans."

50 YEARS AGO

At the Carson Theater, "North by Northwest" with Cary Grant, James Mason and Eva Marie Saint. Sharing the bill is "1001 Arabian Nights."

20 YEARS AGO

In a cry for Nevada's past, some 300 protestors gathered to beg for the V & T Roundhouse to be saved despite the property owner's claim that he was tired of paying high property taxes and liability insurance for the property.

10 YEARS AGO

When the Bureau of Land Management sells off large tracts of land around Las Vegas, local BLM managers are hoping to purchase lands around Carson as open space.
