Northern 1A boys regional

at Elko High School

Virginia City 77, Eureka 53

The Muckers had no problems against Eureka at Elko High School as they were able to clear the bench and get everyone playing time. But that likely won't be the case today (4:40 p.m. tip-off) as the Muckers will face top-seeded Mineral County.

"We were a little bit sloppy tonight, you can't do that against Hawthorne," Virginia City coach Denny Dotson said.

Mineral Co., located in Hawthorne, split the season series with Virginia City with both teams winning their respective home games.

In Thursday's win, the Muckers were led by Zach Shell's 21 points, Colt Dotson added 15 and Cody Morris had 14 off the bench.

Dayton 57, Yerington 53

The Dust Devils nearly had a repeat of the two team's earlier meeting where they let a 15-point lead slip away against the Lions. But Dayton made enough plays to stay alive and will face Spring Creek at 6:20 p.m. today in Winnemucca.

Dayton held a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and had a 12-point lead in the third quarter, but missed 14 free throws down the stretch to let the Lions back in the game.

Kathy Arias led the Dust Devils with 14 points, while Ari Ruybal added 13, Rachel Monzelo had nine and Erika Garcia had eight.
