PLEASANTON, Calif. - Counselors are being called to an Alameda County high school next week to help students deal with the death of a freshman who was killed by a freight train.
Police say the Amador Valley High School freshman was struck Friday afternoon just south of the high school in Pleasanton, about 30 miles east of San Francisco.
The crash involving a southbound Union Pacific train temporarily delayed passenger trains using the same track.
Pleasanton Unified School District spokeswoman Myla Grasso says counselors will be on hand for students when they return to school on Tuesday.
The district is notifying parents and students of the fatality this weekend.
