'Early Carson City' authors at library

Carson City Library will host authors and Nevada Appeal columnists Sue Ballew and Trent Dolan at

6 p.m. Wednesday in the library's auditorium. They will discuss their new book, "Images of America: Early Carson City." Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

The book connects our local history with historical images. Many were taken by the authors' father, Bill Dolan, who wrote "Past Pages" for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.

The Carson City Library is located at the corner of Roop and Washington streets. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; noon-6 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m.-4p.m. Saturday.

American Legion to start March membership drive

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 4 in Carson City is having their annual membership drive in March.

If you are a wife, mother, sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter or grandmother of someone who is or has served in the Armed Forces, or if you have served as well, you're eligible to join the American Legion or its auxiliary.

The next meeting is Tuesday, March 8 at the Veterans Memorial Hall, at Second and Curry streets.

Douglas Democrats to meet Thursday

Douglas Democrats' monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 1513 Hwy. 395, Gardnerville. A social begins at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting starting promptly at 7 p.m.

Guest speaker is Jan Gilbert with Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, discussing mining paying their fair share. Also speaking will be Dave Olosenick with Organizing for America.
