Sen. Bill Raggio, R-Reno, responded today to Gov. Jim Gibbons accusation that he had not attended meetings with the governor's office to go over the state's nearly $900 million budget shortfall.

"Either the governor's memory is failing, or he has been misinformed, or he is intentionally distorting the facts," Raggio said from the Senate floor Wednesday morning.

On an appearance on Nevada Newsmakers this week, Gibbons said he had given lawmakers many chances to meet with him over the budget, "so it has surprised me that Bill Raggio has never showed up at most of these meetings."

After Raggio made his statement, a reporter asked him, "Do you respect the governor?"

"I respect the office," Raggio said.
