US Census Bureau hiring in Nevada

RENO (AP) - The U.S. Census Bureau says it expects to have 4,800 employees in Nevada for the nation's next head count.

Many of the one-time jobs start at $14 an hour. People work out of their homes and can charge mileage when they travel.

The bureau's chief government liaison for Nevada, David Byerman, says the agency will be one of Nevada's largest employers leading up to the 2010 census.

The Census Bureau wants to hire a canvasser for every census-tract neighborhood in the state.

Applicants must pass a criminal-background check and a 28-question test on grammar and math.
