Pant's Pilgrimage in Bodie - San Francisco, Dec. 31, 1879, [in part] Editor Appeal: "On leaving Carson my outfit consisted of sundry mining tools, bedding, grub, ... we all piled into the "sooner" wagon to which Hank's favorite was hitched. We had camped for the night, and Albert, the flying Dutchman, being the cook, picked up a hot skillet and dropped it with a few German remarks, on a pot of boiling coffee, upsetting its contents into his unlaced shoes. He immediately commenced kicking at the moon, and giving utterances to such a string of German oaths that the air was full of echoes, old shoes, low Dutch, north German and frying pans. I rolled under the "sooner" just in time to dodge a flying number 10 brogan."

Bandanna: The word "Bandanna" comes from an Indian word to bind or tie. A fit emblem for the Democratic party, which was tied hand and foot at the last election.

Seen, Heard, or Thought by E.T.C.: Coach McElroy has last year's team practically intact. The McElroy-trained ex-stars were Jimmy Harvey, Archie Pozzi, Jr., Ira Andersen, Danny Franks and Geno Lencioni ... first game results in a 49 to 27 victory.

Gov. Grant Sawyer's proposed new budget recommends a $2,500 salary increase for all elective officers except himself and Lt. Gov. Rex Bell. If recommendations are accepted, the salaries of the secretary of state, state printer, state treasurer, controller and inspector of mines will go from $10,000 to $12,500 a year.

Carson Lady Senators won their 13th game of the season 52-43 against the Elko Indians. Jennifer Gray and Katie Shipman each scored 11 for the Senators. Shawna Satterthwait led the Indians in scoring with 12 points and Amy Howman added 10.

Seconds after midnight downtown Carson City witnesses a freak power outage for portions of Curry Street from 10th to Fifth Street and left the Ormsby House Hotel and Casino and Carson Station Hotel powerless ... not Y2K related.
