Gov. Jim Gibbons extends program for first-time home buyers

(AP) - Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons is extending a program that helps Nevadans purchase their first home.

Gibbons on Monday extended the Home at Last financing program that's coordinated by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority.

Gibbons has approved up to $185 million in mortgage revenue bonds to help first-time home buyers. The program offers low interest rates for families meeting certain income criteria.

The homes purchased can be in any of Nevada's 17 counties but have to be in rural areas - towns with populations less than 100,000.

The program has helped more than 500 Nevada families since it started in 2006.

There is no deadline to apply for the program. The money is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information visit nvrural.org.
