Carson City Supervisors to establish advisory panel for redevelopment project

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is scheduled Thursday to establish a Carson Nugget Development Advisory committee to offer input on the proposed 9-acre downtown project.

The committee is to be comprised of people with knowledge and expertise pertaining to the proposed public/private partnership.

The purpose of the committee is to offer advice on matters concerning the development and means of funding the public portion of the Carson Nugget property.

The committee will meet every two weeks and will be dissolved upon adoption by supervisors of a development agreement for the project.

Meanwhile, at the direction of supervisors, the city's Office of Business Develop-ment will bring letters of intent to be signed for major elements of the Nugget project from two businesses interested in being part of the downtown vision by investing in Carson City - the Center for Unique Enterprises which might work on the development, construction and management of the Carson City Business & Technology Incubator and Eagle World Media, Inc. which could be part of the development, construction and management of the Carson City Digital Media Lab.

The board in its capacity as the Redevelopment Authority will decide whether to authorize its chairwoman to sign the letters which bring together the two businesses as well as the redevelopment authority, the city and Carson Nugget Inc./Hop and Mae Adams Foundation/Hop and Mae Adams Trust.

Supervisors also could take action on the following:

• Directing the Parks and Recreation Department staff to examine Carson City's recreation programs for youth and adults in order to determine the level, if any, of additional indoor space which might be needed, and to determine the availability of Question 18 funds to pay for more space.

• Adopting a resolution to seek American Recovery & Restoration Act grant funds to build a proposed indoor recreation center.

• An appeal by the Comstock Casino of a Planning Commission decision to grant a special use permit for a charter school campus on property located at 2222 College Parkway.

• A cutback program priority list will be presented to the Board of Supervisors at 2 p.m. which will be needed in preparing the 2010-11 fiscal year general fund budget.
