A 3.4 magnitude earthquake has hit in a remote area of southwestern Nevada near the California border.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck about 1 a.m. PST Monday and was centered in a sparsely populated area about 170 miles southeast of Reno.
USGS geophysicist Amy Vaughan says the quake was felt in an area on both sides of the Nevada-California line, but its intensity was not strong enough to cause any serious damage.
