The National Weather Service is predicting blizzard conditions beginning this afternoon and continuing into this evening.
"Motorists should use caution and allow extra time to reach their destination," according to the winter storm watch issued Tuesday.
Meteorologists are predicting "significant snow accumulations of 6 inches or more today and tonight near and south of Carson City."
Southwest winds are expected to be around 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
Highs for today should be near 38.
Snow will likely continue into Thursday with south winds around 10 mph.
Friday will bring a 50 percent chance of snow showers, with a high near 35.
The sun is expected to return over the weekend, with a sunny Saturday around 39 degrees. Sunday should be cloudy, with a high near 43.
The weather service is forecasting a chance of rain again on Monday.
