Nikki Warren, owner of Tumbleweeds Gymnastics, wants to help fight against the rise in obesity and help Carson City families get fit and healthy while having fun doing it.

A new youth and teen fitness program called, Kx will be offered. Kx is an unconventional co-ed sports training class for ages 8-18 that will meet twice a week. It will be geared towards children of all fitness levels and cross-training for young athletes in any sport.

Two free trial classes will be offered today and Friday. Anyone who wants to get in on the fun, simply needs to call to reserve their spot.

"With obesity being at an all-time high, we need to get kids moving and having fun doing it," Warren said. "Studies show that one out of every four children is overweight and that two-thirds of American children ages 6-17 cannot pass a basic fitness test. It is also proven that physically fit kids have higher academic achievements, as well as improved concentration skills and better classroom behavior."

Owners of Tumbleweeds Gymnastics and Kaia F.I.T. (Functional Intense Training) formally known as Moxy Fitness for Women, said they were excited with the turnout for the Family Fun and Fit Day.

"Hundreds of families lined up to test their fitness levels. Kids and parents from Carson City and surrounding communities didn't just come to play, but to work out as well," Warren said.

Tumbleweeds and Kaia F.I.T. decided to branch out and create a youth and teen fitness program - Kx. The program help youths gain strength, agility, coordination, flexibility, and improved overall fitness.

Participants will be teaching their bodies to move as they are supposed to by running, jumping, playing, rolling, climbing and even crawling through obstacle courses and fitness tests.
