Adult baseball league looking for coaches, players
The Western Nevada Adult Baseball Association, a wood bat chapter of the affiliated NABA, is expanding this year.
The organization is looking for players, coaches and umpires in Fernley, Fallon, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Mason Valley and the surrounding rural area.

Player fees are $150 per player, which includes insurance, baseballs, field cost and umpire fees.

Eagle Valley 8th grade spikers on a hot streak
Eagle Valley Middle School's eighth grade volleyball team has posted three wins in four matches in the last two weeks.
Last Thursday, Eagle Valley lost 14-25, 25-20, 15-11 despite 15 points by Carly Bachmann and 10 more by Jennifer Purcell. Malia Tiffer added six points and McKenna Mitchell five points.
On Jan. 19, Eagle Valley topped Carson Middle School 25-21 and 25-23. Purcell finished with eight points, while Skye Simpson and Bachmann added six points apiece.
On Jan. 12, Eagle Valley topped Pau Wa Lu in three games, 25-18, 11-25 and 15-10. Purcell led the way with 14 points, Bachmann added 11 and Sarah Brewer had 10.
On Jan. 14, Eagle Valley topped South Tahoe 25-17 and 25-16. Bachmann led the way with 15 points, while Tiffer contributed four. Shelby Swanson and Purcell added three points apiece.

The Eagle Valley 7th grade volleyball squad topped Carson Middle School 25-22, 18-25, 15-9 and Carson Valley Middle School 25-16 and 25-21 last week.
Abbey Dudley led Eagle Valley against Carson Middle with six points, while Erica Gallegos added five and Christa Young four. Michelle Perry added three points, four kills and five assists.
In the win over Carson Valley, Perry had seven kills, eight points and four digs. Young also had eight points while Lindsay Hettrick contributed five points and two kills. Eagle Valley is 5-0.
Knights of Columbus to hold free-throw event
The Knights of Columbus Council No. 4781 will hold its free-throw championship from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St. The competition is open to all boys and girls 10-14 years of age.
Entry is free and you can sign up and register the day of competition. Age group winners will move on to district and regional competitions. For questions or more information contact Gregg Swift at 882-7545.
Carson to host spring sports sign-ups on Feb. 8
The Carson High spring sports sign-ups are 5-6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in the North Foyer.
Now is the time to get your athletic packet completed including physical if necessary.
Sports packets can be obtained online at carsonhigh.com. Sports packets will not be accepted after Feb. 22. See the athletic department for more details.
Carson baseball to host poker tourney Feb. 20
The Carson High baseball team is hosting its second annual poker tournament at the Plaza Hotel Conference Center from 6-10 p.m. Feb. 20.
It costs $20 for tickets, which includes appetizers. Poker buy-in is $40.
There will be a silent auction and raffle prizes as well. You must be older than 21.
Tickets must be picked up at the athletic office as door sales will not be available.

Carson Babe Ruth sign-ups slated for Saturday
Sign-ups for Carson City Babe Ruth will be held Saturday and Feb. 6 at the Carson City Community Center from 8 a.m to noon.
The cost is $135 per player. Tryouts will be held March 20 at 10 a.m. at Governor's Field. Managers and coaches are needed for the coming season.

3 tied for Comstock pool lead
Cornbread & Whiskey, Do Work and Scratch Masters are locked in a three-way tie for first place in the Comstock League in the American Poolplayers Association Carson City Chapter. All three teams have 219 points.
Frederick Osterhagen leads the 4-5 tier with 15 points, while John Vecchiarelli is next with 12 points.
Don Allred of Scratch Masters leads the 6-9 tier with seven points, while Bill Howard of Cornbread & Whiskey is next with six.
George Vick of the Rattlers leads the 1-3 tier with nine points, one better than teammate Yvonne O'Brian.
The Trouble Makers leads the Mosconi League with nine points, while Role Models and Support Reckless Habits are next with eight.
Casey Richards of Support Reckless Habits, Austin Matthews of Jerry's Kids and William Kenson of Trouble Makers are tied for the top spot in the 4-5 tier with 10 points apiece.
Allred leads the 6-7 tier with 11 points and Justin Young of Role Models is second with nine points.
Tadd Patchen lead the 2-3 tier with nine points. Jason Agnew of Support Reckless Habits is second with eight points.
Super Bowl party
for senior citizens on Feb. 7
The Young At Heart Senior Citizen Club is sponsoring a free Super Bowl Party on Feb. 7 at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville.
The festivities start with a potluck lunch at 1 p.m. All of those attending this party are requested to bring a dish for the potluck. The club will supply soft drinks, ice tea, coffee, chips and dip throughout the day.
Card games will be available during the afternoon before the game. During the Super Bowl, prizes will be awarded based on the scores at the end of each quarter.
