Classes prepare students for jobs

Data from the Nevada Research and Analysis Bureau suggests that sales, service and administrative occupations will have the highest number of job openings in Nevada through 2016. Students can refine skills and prepare for careers in these fields with classes available at WNC this fall.

Business classes such as Customer Service (BUS 112B) teach students service and business fundamentals. The class focuses on developing communication skills and techniques to help students learn to work more effectively with customers and co-workers. The class can be applied toward an associate of applied science degree in business or a certificate of achievement in retail management, customer service or business.

Computer office technology and computer applications classes cover the fundamentals of using word processing, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office, the Internet and Quickbooks to help students succeed in an office environment. Classes fit into students' varying schedules: full-term, three credit classes and shorter, 0.5 credit classes are available. Western also continues to offer degrees and certificates for construction and nursing, which also trend toward the top of the list of available jobs in Nevada.

Parenting workshops available in Spanish

Free parenting workshops presented in Spanish are on tap this fall at WNC. The workshops will help parents understand the importance of educational development for their children's future. Topics include development of personal life capabilities, leadership, improving relationships, goal setting and more. Workshops are 5-8 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 7-Sept. 18 on the Carson City campus. College campuses close for holiday

WNC campuses and centers will be closed on Monday in observance of Independence Day. Campuses reopen on Tuesday. The Douglas campus remains closed until Monday, Aug. 2.
