While no one sustained serious physical injury in a wreck on Highway 50 East on Tuesday morning, one man's livelihood was shattered.
"That's my whole life," said mobile mechanic William Shoemaker, 48, as he stared at his overturned Jeep Grand Cherokee, its contents - tools of his trade - shattered and plastered across the highway. "Those kids just took the feet right out from under me, man."
Shoemaker was eastbound on Highway 50 East just west of the Fairview Drive intersection about 11:15 a.m. when a Ford Taurus, registered to Jeffrey Ludel, 21, of Carson City, pulled out from Brown Street into Shoemaker's path, police said.
"He just came shooting out. I tried swerving in the middle," said Shoemaker.
Trooper Todd Hartline said the Jeep vaulted off the front of the Taurus and ended up on its roof in the center turn lane.
Passersby pulled Shoemaker and his dog, Blister, from the wreckage.
"I was cruising along thinking about my next job, and boom, Blister comes flying at me," said Shoemaker.
He suffered a cut on his shoulder and a gash on his wrist. Blister received a small cut on her paw and one on her chin.
The driver of the Taurus was cited.
The accident caused minor traffic delays in the area for about an hour.
