Carson 14 and 15's post victories

GARDNERVILLE - Carson City's 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars scored eight fourth-inning runs to wipe out a 3-1 deficit to beat Walker River, 11-3, in the first round of the state tournament.

Jace Zampiro pitched six innings of three-hit ball with five strikeouts and no walks. Cody Schmidlin worked a scoreless seventh to close out the game. 

Carson used four walks and three hits to fuel its barrage.

The big blow of the inning was a two-out double by T.J. Thomsen. Nevin Elliott and Chase Blueberg also contributed hits in the rally.

Carson added one in the fifth and two in the sixth to cap the win.

Gehrig Tucker, Luke Maher and Zampiro led the fifth and sixth-inning onslaught.

Zampiro and Thomsen had two hits and Tucker scored three times to lead the offense.

CARSON 15-YEAR-OLDS WIN

RENO - Tyler Valley threw six strong innings, as Carson City edged Truckee 6-4 in the first round of the state tournament at Governors Bowl.

Carson City advances to play South Reno today at 10 a.m.

"We played a lot of small ball," said Carson coach Chris Wolfe. "We'd move runners around and score on groundballs or sacrifice flies."

Truckee took a 2-0 lead in the first, but Carson roared back with three runs in its half of the inning. Casey Wolfe singled home a run and Jason Rush drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly.

Carson added single runs in the second and third, as Logan Krupp and Valley each drove in a run. The score stayed 5-2 until the seventh when Truckee scored twice and knocked Valley out of the game. Cody Reno finished up fort Carson to get the save.

Danny Okimura led Carson with two hits.
