The Professional Women in Building Summit will showcase outstanding local amenities, networking and social outlets for professional services plus many other area activities and items from massages, home decor and wine to community service groups like Advocates to End Domestic Violence. All proceeds raised go towards their scholarship program and the Helping Hands program. Helping hands helps single female homeowners with "honey do" lists when they are struggling to raise their children and need some fixing up around the home and cannot not afford repairs.

BACKPACK ATTACK

IS BACK

Starting in August, Platinum Salon & Spa will once again team up with Soroptimist International of Carson City to help local children receive the necessary tools for school. Please help by providing a new backpack filled with supplies for boys and girls from elementary through high school. A new backpack is something every child wants for the first day of school and with the economy, everyone needs more help. I just received a call concerning two little boys, ages 7 and 9, whose father is fighting stage-4 cancer and can't work. Mom is working at a gas station and doing her best. All they want is school clothing and backpacks and, no, they are not getting federal or state assistance. If you want to help local children who will be screened for income and need to qualify, this is the program.

KUDOS: to Scout Zachary VanZyll and his crew (Dad, Gary). They worked really hard in CASA's new Foster Kid's Closet, putting up shelves and piping. It was a huge job, and extremely difficult. Thanks Zack, your efforts will assist many children in foster care for a long time. All you scouts pick such great Eagle Scout Projects.
