August 27, 1946 - July 23, 2010
John Alexander Molnar, a longtime Dayton resident, died at home with his family by his side on July 23, 2010, after a long courageous battle with cancer. John was born on Aug. 27, 1946, to Alexander and Margaret Molnar in Glendale, Calif. John joined the Navy in 1964 and served on the USS Tiru and the USS Hornet during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1967 he returned to California and shortly thereafter moved to Northern Nevada. He met Chris Casey in 1994 and they were married on July 3, 1999. His unconditional love of family and friends, a positive attitude towards life and his wonderful sense of humor carried with him throughout his battle with cancer.
He worked for Vinyl Products in Carson City for 29 years and was the production manager at the time of his retirement. His favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends and his many interests included NASCAR, watching the Oakland Raiders, USC football, and following the PGA tournaments. He particularly liked trips in his RV and spending time at Eagle Lake in California.
John was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Molnar. He is survived by his wife Chris Molnar of Dayton; his mother Margaret Molnar and brother Stephan Molnar of California; his sons Jeff (Tanya) Molnar and James Molnar of Medford, Ore., and Justin Molnar of Reno, Shawn (Darsi) Casey of Dayton, Patrick (Kathy) Casey and Brian (Michele) Casey of Reno; granddaughters Jordyn, Emerson, Eryn and, soon to be born, Parker Casey; grandsons Alex and Brandon Molnar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Reddy and his staff of Reno Oncology and Vista Care Hospice of Sparks for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to John as well as the numerous family and friends that supported John during the five years he battled his cancer.
There will be a military service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
