Nevada leads: The Pacific branch office of the American Red Cross states that Nevada leads the area by contributing 122.5 percent of the state's assigned quota in the War Relief Campaign. Next in order were Arizona, Utah, California.

Dick Graves' golden rooster (206 troy ounces) may end up on Alcatraz Island. The government frowns on that much processed gold in one chunk in anyone's possession without a special permit issued by the Secretary of Treasury ... federal judge John R. Ross issued an order to have the rooster taken into custody until a hearing into the matter is conducted ... (violation of Gold Reserve Act of 1934).
