Muscle Powered bike rides on Wednesdays

Join the Muscle Powered Bike Ride each Wednesday for a short bike ride around Carson City. This is a family oriented bike ride about 5 miles in length and total time is estimated to be about an hour.

Starting at Telegraph Square the route varies throughout the west side of beautiful Carson City and the pace is slow to moderate. Please bring your helmets and bikes ready to ride.

You can check a map of the ride at musclepowered.org. The rides start at 6:30 p.m.

The annual membership fees for Muscle Powered are $10 for senior and students, $15 for individual and $20 for the entire family.

Guided hike at

Echo Lakes

Hike the Tahoe Rim Trail on the southern portion of Desolation Wilderness along Lower and Upper Echo Lakes. Climb toward Haypress Meadows to discover what wildflowers the heavy snows delivered. Dip down to Lake of the Woods for lunch before the return hike.

Space is limited, register in advance only and no dogs on this hike. Hike from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 28. Total distance is 10 miles and the difficulty is moderate.

Wildflower Festival at Kirkwood

Celebrate 10 years of food, wine, and wildflowers at Kirkwood on Saturday.

Take a stroll with guided hikes by local wildflower expert Laird Blackwell before savoring flavors of local Amador and El Dorado County wines. Hit the plaza and visit booths filled with the works of local artisans as you enjoy live music by The Kingtones.

The 10th annual Wildflower Festival benefits the Sugar Pine Foundation, a group dedicated to preserving the flora and fauna of the High Sierra. Tasting tickets are $20 with events happening on the Village Plaza from noon to 5 p.m.

Summer full moon Tahoe Rim Trail hikes

Members of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association can experience the Tahoe Rim Trail at dusk with casually paced hikes for all ages.

Bring a flashlight, a wind-proof layer and water. Register in advance only, and please no dogs on this hike. Hikes are from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24; Thursday, Sept. 23; and Saturday, Oct. 23.

TRTA Membership is required to attend and space is limited so advance sign-up is required.

Fall mountain bike conference set

For three days, starting Oct. 1, the International Mountain Bicycling Association and the U.S. Forest Service will host a Tahoe Trails Conference at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa, according to a statement from the Forest Service.

The event, which is open to all members of the mountain bike community, will create an opportunity for collaboration between riders, land managers and the bike industry, according to the statement.

The goal is to ensure the future of sustainable and enjoyable trails in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
