LAS VEGAS (AP) - Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden accused her leading rival Wednesday of violating campaign finance rules, but Democrats said it's Lowden who has a problem with bookkeeping.
The dueling accusations were the latest exchanged in the fierce battle to pick a Republican in Nevada's June 8 primary to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Lowden's campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission claiming candidate Sharron Angle failed to properly disclose and pay for a flight on a supporter's airplane.
Angle's campaign has denied wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the Nevada Democratic Party filed an FEC complaint that said Lowden is breaking rules by mixing up funds in her campaign account. Lowden campaign manager Robert Uithoven said in a statement that the Democratic filing is "proof that Harry Reid and his allies are running scared of Sue Lowden."
The commission can take months to rule on the merits of complaints.
