A Carson City man killed Sunday morning in a head-on collision west of Tonopah has been identified as 78-year-old Stephen Robben.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Robben was westbound on Highway 6, west of Tonopah, in a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix when his vehicle drifted into the path of an eastbound 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by an Oregon man.

Trooper Chuck Allen said the trucker tried to avoid the accident, but the vehicles collided near the right edge of the eastbound travel lane. Robben and his two dogs were pronounced dead at the scene.

The trucker and his teenage son received minor injuries in the accident.

The accident, just east of Coaldale in central Nevada, partially blocked the road for five hours.
