As Doppelgangers gears up to expand its indoor restaurant capacity, owners have decided to donate four pool tables to community organizations.

Two of the tables are headed for the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, one for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and the other to the Community Counseling Center.

Doppelgangers Chief Executive Officer Courtney Hawk-Clouser said they plan to expand the Tap Room and stage.

"The bar will be condensed to make room for more stage, and we went to non-smoking on the first of June," she said.

Doppelgangers owner Alan Adams said he was pleased to be able to donate the pool tables.

"This is the way we wanted to go - to encourage good will within the community, and these tables will certainly be put to good use," Adams said.

In addition, two utility vehicles and a 15-passenger van will be donated to Western Nevada College, he said. The van will be worked on at the college, then passed along to the Community Counseling Center.

Mayor Bob Crowell, who was on hand for the event, said he was impressed with Adams' generosity.

"To me, this is the community giving back to the community," Crowell said. "When economic times are tough, this is how you do it."

Representatives from all three groups said they were thrilled with the donations.

Susan Centanni, office manager for the Community Counseling Center, said the pool table will go to one of their facilities for recovering alcohols and drug addicts.

"We were surprised and happy and want to thank Doppelgangers and the Adams family for their generous donation. It will be put to good use," Centanni said.

Janice McIntosh, director of the senior center, said the new pool tables will go into the center's pool room, while the older ones will be moved into the senior housing.

"They will be very well-loved," she said.

Mary Pierczynski, president of the board for the Boys & Girls Clubs, said the pool table will be a great addition.

"This is going to be wonderful for the kids. There are hundreds of kids at the club this summer. We're up 26 percent over last year," she said. "They're beautiful tables, so we're going to take very good care of them."
