Each year people become lost, stranded or worse in the wilderness. Washoe Lake State Park is offering a course today on how to use a GPS (Global Positioning System).

The course, from

10 a.m. to noon, will explain GPS, how GPS works and how it can be used to navigate in the outdoors. Participants will even get to search for a hidden geocache.

Participants are asked to bring a GPS, as a limited number of handheld GPS units will be available.

This program is limited 15 participants. Call 687-4319 to reserve a space. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. in the main group area pavilion. The course is free, but there is a per-vehicle entrance fee of $7 ($2 discount for Nevada residents.)
